Well, Daniela we don't have anything quite as exciting as your amazing Ponte Vecchio here in Small Town, and certainly no gold or diamonds on our bridges! But we do have some charming picturesque bridges in this area. Today I will show you 3 antique covered wooden bridges in Maryland.

Beh, Daniela non abbiamo niente di così eccitante come il tuo incredibile Ponte Vecchio qui in Small Town, e certamente niente oro nè diamanti sui nostri ponti! Ma abbiamo alcuni ponti pittoreschi ed affascinante dalle mie parti. Oggi vi mostrerò tre antichi ponti in legno coperti in Maryland.
This is the first one and the smallest of the three.

If you look closely you can see people swimming underneath. It was a very hot day when I took these photos.

I hope you enjoyed seeing these charming old bridges. They remind me of one of my favorite movies "The Bridges of Madison County"!

I love them too and maybe it's just for the same reason as I also think that "The Bridges of Madison County" is one of the best books I ever read!
ReplyDeleteI found some covered bridges while travelling in Canada and I remember well how I was fascinated by them, obliging my husband to stop the car so that I could make lots of pictures. At the time we wondered about the reason for building a covered bridge (shelter? animal crossing? tradition?) and then discovered that the real reason was the simplest one: protecting the wood from weathering. Nonetheless, they are still lovely and absolutely charming!
Li adoro anche io e forse è proprio per lo stesso motivo visto che anche secondo me "I Ponti di Madison County" è uno dei più bei libri che abbia letto!
Ho visto alcuni ponti coperti durante un viaggio in Canada e ricordo bene quanto ne fui affascinata, obbligando mio marito a fermare l'auto per permettermi di fare un sacco di foto. Ci chiedemmo quale fosse la vera ragione per la costruzione di un ponte coperto (rifugio? passaggio per gli animali? tradizione?) e poi scoprimmo che il motivo reale era il più semplice: proteggere il legno dalle intemperie. In ogni caso, sono sempre bellissimi e assolutamente affascinanti!

ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment! Yes, you are correct about their purpose, since the bridges themselves were made out of wood, they only last a few years before they rotted, but when they added the covered part, they lasted for decades.
How charming! Very picturesque and the countryside is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sara! I took these photos just about a week and half ago, we've had scorching head for the past week and everything is so brown here now all of a sudden. I'm glad I took these photos while everything was still green.

We keep seeing pictures of these charming bridges. I must get out and find them! Maybe in the fall when it is cooler!
